What CBD is Not
Although Cannabidiol has been used for many years the recent explosion in it’s popularity brings up a lot of confusion and re-occurring questions. The blog answers common questions like, "Will CBD get me high?" and "Is CBD illegal?" Here's you go-to list to remember what CBD is not!
CBD is not THC
Both CBD and THC are cannabinoids derived from the hemp or marijuana plant. There are over 30 known cannabinoids. THC or Tetrahydrocannabinol is a psychoactive cannabinoid which alters the brain state in a way that produces a high. CBD or Cannabidiol is a non-psychoactive. All cannabinoids bind to cannabinoid receptors in the brain but each product a different chain reaction. Both THC and CBD can stimulate feelings of relaxation, pain relief, and energy however THC has also been reported to induce memory impairment, paranoia, dizziness and impaired motor function. In Cannabidiol Oil there is incredibly minimal traces of THC. Even ingesting an entire bottle of Think Botanicals CBD Oil would not get you 'high'.
CBD is not Illegal
CBD infused products and/or pure CBD oil are not illegal in Canada or the U.S. This product can be legally bought and shipped across the country. Some marijuana dispensaries will carry CBD products due to the popularity or products with both THC and CBD.
CBD does not require a prescription.
CBD is an over the counter product which can be purchased through many websites and in health food stores. We do not require a written prescription from a doctor however a doctor may suggest trying CBD as a potential solution to symptoms such as insomnia, anxiety, and pain.
CBD is currently not covered by insurance.
CBD oil was originally studied as a treatment for epilepsy, a treatment which is still successfully used today. For young kids with epilepsy who benefit immensely the money for CBD as medication is coming out of their own pocket. The CBD community continues to advocate for insurance coverage to help support vulnerable populations such as these children.
CBD is not a magic pill.
Keep in mind that CBD oil is not created in a lab like medicines which have genetic modifications and scientific manipulation allowing them to be incredibly ‘strong’. But it is a powerful plant medicine and when used overtime in a patient specific dose can be very effective in its treatment.
